WHAT WE DO

 FORENSIC EVALUATIONS

A forensic evaluation is an evaluation that applies psychology to legal matters. Although the most common request comes from a criminal court, probation department, or attorney, these types of evaluations can be very useful in non-criminal areas such as family law, child protective services, or workplace conflicts.

A domestic violence evaluation is to determine whether there is a need for intervention and, if so, what kind is appropriate to create behavioral change and facilitate victim safety.

Anger/aggression management evaluations are similar to domestic violence evaluations but are most often performed for problems in the workplace and non-domestic violence related aggressive behavior.

Evaluations to modify a no-contact order in a domestic violence case are usually done after an offender has undergone several sessions of either domestic violence offender intervention or anger/aggression management.

Mental health evaluations are performed in a variety of circumstances;  including assessing a need for treatment and providing information regarding an offender’s liability.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OFFENDER INTERVENTION

We strongly believe that compassion and accountability are not mutually exclusive.  Clients have a right to be treated with respect and understanding during the difficult process of behavioral change.  A satisfactory treatment outcome is one in which the client becomes aware of the thought patterns that allowed him or her to be abusive and/or violent; demonstrates significant progress in changing those patterns; and stops the behavior.  In our experience, a cognitive-behavioral therapeutic approach is the most effective tool to achieve that goal.

Intervention services are provided to offenders consistent with the regulations set out in the Washington Administrative Code. The focus of intervention is to help the offender identify his or her beliefs and thought patterns that may contribute to abusive and/or violent behavior.  Once those have been identified, he or she is provided with various techniques and skills that will facilitate changing those thoughts and behavior.

Many of our clients are indigent or near-indigent.  In order to provide them needed services, our fees are income based.  We also provide the ability for a client to attend group sessions via live video if necessary.

ANGER/AGGRESSION MANAGEMENT

Anger & Aggression Management emphasizes identifying and changing underlying thought patterns and environmental triggers that promote feelings of anger and aggressive or reactive behavior.   The goal is awareness of what thoughts and environmental situations contribute to the problem, how to change thought patterns to more constructive ones, and how to control the physiological arousal that can lead to acting out.

COUPLES COACHING

We use the Gottman Institute’s Seven Principles Program for coaching couples who may want to improve a decent relationship or who are in distress but have no serious issues like addiction or abuse. It normally takes a couple 6-8 sessions to complete the program.  After coaching, clients report fewer conflicts because they are able to prevent their differences from escalating.

CONFLICT SOLUTIONS FOR ORGANIZATIONS

Using what we have learned from successfully working with many kinds of interpersonal conflict over the last 25+ years, we bring a varied and in-depth skill set to the assessment of conflict within an organization and provide solutions as well as intervention services that may be required.
